My partner and I had no experience of kayaking - but our common interest in nature drew us to want to kayak. Before embarking on our own tour, a basic education was well in place.
We chose to conduct a private introductory tour with the instructor Mattias as including the basics of kayaking, sea urchin and peer rescue / safety procedure when paddling.
Initially, the tour began with basic facts and tips about the kayak, its structure and function. To then quickly move on to basic techniques for seating and seating at the bridge, which was conveniently located right next to the facility.
Next, we navigated around Sotenäs beautiful archipelago that offers clear water and magnificent views with its classic red cottages and rocky islands. In the meantime, Mattias was careful to show, instruct and instruct control techniques and other functional procedures needed to perform a kayak efficiently as well as safely and securely. After each technique, Mattias was careful that we understood its execution and had to practice this several times before we continued - which gave a feeling of security.
After about half the trip, we took a break on an island in the archipelago. We got nice tourist tips as well as a wonderful time in the sun (and a chance to rest our arms and shoulders). Our brought coffee, water and sandwich tasted good in its place before we continued.
Finally we started paddling towards Väjern again and got to practice further on all the techniques taught during the day. In connection with us approaching the bridge, Mattias instructed us how to carry out comrade rescue in a correct and safe way. We had to save each other after a controlled capsizing. This particular moment we both experienced is a very good experience to test before it may occur unprepared in another more unforgiving environment.
All in all, we feel safe to paddle on our own after this 4 hour trip with Smögen's kayak adventure. Both I and my partner think that this introduction is well spent money before you go out on your own in the blue wave. We would highly recommend this introductory training to all new and rusty paddlers out there; before setting out on your own!
Many thanks Mattias.
